Manage your subscription
This article describes how to manage your billing, subscription level, as well as how to cancel your subscription and delete your account. Only the Databricks account administrators can manage a Databricks subscription.
Confirm or change your subscription plan
Note
This topic assumes you have a pay-as-you-go subscription that started as a free trial subscription. If you have a contract with Databricks, contact your Databricks account team for billing updates and questions.
You can compare the different Databricks pricing plans. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan.
Note
Databricks charges for Databricks usage in Databricks Units (DBUs). The number of DBUs a workload consumes varies based on a number of factors, including Databricks compute type (all-purpose or jobs) and Google Cloud machine type. For details, see the pricing page.
Additional costs are incurred in your Google Cloud account:
Google Cloud charges you an additional per-workspace cost for the GKE cluster that Databricks creates for Databricks infrastructure in your account. As of March 30, 2021, the cost for this GKE cluster is approximately $200/month, prorated to the days in the month that the GKE cluster runs. Prices can change, so check the latest prices.
The GKE cluster cost applies even if Databricks clusters are idle. To reduce this idle-time cost, Databricks deletes the GKE cluster in your account if no Databricks Runtime clusters are active for five days. Other resources, such as VPC and GCS buckets, remain unchanged. The next time a Databricks Runtime cluster starts, Databricks recreates the GKE cluster, which adds to the initial Databricks Runtime cluster launch time. For an example of how GKE cluster deletion reduces monthly costs, let’s say you used a Databricks Runtime cluster on the first of the month but not again for the rest of the month: your GKE usage would be the five days before the idle timeout takes effect and nothing more, costing approximately $33 for the month.
Databricks does not support configuration changes to a running GKE cluster. If you customize a GKE cluster configuration after it is created, and that cluster is deleted due to idle timeout, the recreated cluster will not include your customizations.
There are important differences between upgrade and downgrade for your existing workspaces. Upgrading an account plan upgrades the plan for both current and future workspaces. Downgrading an account plan affects future workspaces but does not downgrade the plan for current workspaces. For questions before upgrading the account, contact your Databricks account team.
Important
Upgrading your account plan may permanently upgrade the plan for your existing workspaces.
As the Databricks account owner or an account-level administrator, log in to the account console.
In the sidebar, click Settings.
Click Change plan. Below your plan, there is a green box with label Selected.
Optionally change your plan.
To upgrade your plan, click Upgrade to Premium.
To downgrade your plan, contact your Databricks account team at
sales@databricks.com
. Click Contact us to downgrade to start an email to this address.
Note
Access control settings are disabled by default on workspaces that are upgraded from the Standard plan to the Premium plan. Once an access control setting is enabled, it can not be disabled. For more information, see Access controls lists can be enabled on upgraded workspaces.
Confirm your billing account by using the order number
Your Databricks account is associated with a Google billing account. You can confirm which Google billing account was used for your Databricks subscription. This may be particularly important if your organization has multiple Databricks subscriptions or Google billing accounts. The best way to confirm the billing account is to get your subscription’s Google order number. Each order number associates a specific Databricks subscription with one specific Google billing account. Use the following steps to get the order number and to confirm the associated billing account.
Get your Google order number from your Databricks account console:
In the left navigation, click Settings.
In the Subscription & Billing tab, under the Billing heading, you see the Google order number associated with your Databricks subscription. Copy and save that order number for later use.
Go to the Databricks listing on Google Cloud Marketplace. If you are not already signed in, click Sign in and authenticate.
In the top navigation, click the project picker and select the Google Cloud project that is associated with your Google billing account that you want to use with Databricks. This is not required to be the same project that you use to deploy your workspaces.
Using the marketplace search box, search for
Databricks
. Click Databricks.Scroll down to the Pricing section.
Click MANAGE ORDERS. You see the list of orders for the billing account that was used for the subscription.
Confirm that the billing account that is shown in the Select a billing account picker is the billing account that you expect.
Review the orders associated with that billing account. This list shows both active and inactive orders. Orders associated with an active Databricks subscription have a green checkmark in the Status column. Orders associated with an inactive Databricks subscription have a gray horizontal line in the Status column.
Review all orders and confirm that the information appears correct.
Find the active order that you believe is associated with your Databricks subscription. Typical organizations have one active order, but in some cases large organizations may have more than one.
The second column includes the order number. It is truncated so you cannot see its full value. To copy the full order number to the clipboard, click the button.
Paste and save that value into the same place you saved the order ID that you got from the Databricks account console.
Confirm that the two order IDs match.
If they match, you successfully confirmed which Google billing account and Google order number are associated with your subscription. Save the billing account name and the order number for future communication with your Databricks account team.
If they do not match, contact your Databricks account team.
Note
To update the Google billing account associated with your Databricks account, reach out to Google Cloud support for assistance.
Cancel your Databricks subscription
Note
This topic assumes you have a pay-as-you-go subscription. If you have a contract with Databricks, contact your Databricks account team to cancel your Databricks subscription.
After you cancel your subscription:
You can no longer access workspaces, notebooks, or data in your Databricks account.
In accordance with the Databricks terms of service, any customer content contained within workspaces tied to your subscription will be deleted within 30 days of cancellation.
You can’t sign up for a new subscription by using the same email address. You must provide a new email address in the sign-up form.
Warning
Cancellation of the subscription deletes all workspaces in the Databricks account. Workspace deletion is not reversible.
To cancel your subscription:
Go to the Databricks listing on Google Cloud Marketplace. If you are not already signed in, click Sign in and authenticate.
In the top navigation, click the project picker and select the Google Cloud project that is associated with your Google billing account that you want to use with Databricks. This is not required to be the same project that you use to deploy your workspaces.
Using the marketplace search box, search for
Databricks
. Click Databricks.Scroll down to the Pricing section.
Click MANAGE ORDERS.
On the order page that appears, review the billing account that is shown in the Select a billing account picker, and review the orders associated with that Google billing account.
For the desired order, see the second column for the order number. It is truncated so you cannot see its full value. To copy the full order number, click the button.
Paste and save that value into the same place that you saved the order ID from the Databricks account console.
Confirm that the two order IDs match.
If they match, you successfully confirmed which Google billing account and Google order number are associated with your subscription. Save the billing account name and the order number for future communication with your Databricks account team.
If they do not match, contact your Databricks account team.
Click the kebab menu at the rightmost edge of each order’s row for additional actions.
In the picker, click Cancel purchase.
Optional cleanup steps:
For each workspace, review the cleanup steps that might be necessary after you delete a workspace.
Use the Google Console API Dashboard to review which Google APIs are enabled on your account’s associated Google Cloud project. During workspace creation, Databricks enables some required Google APIs if they are not already enabled, but they are not disabled automatically during workspace deletion.
Delete your Databricks account
Deleting an account deletes the account owner and all history associated with the management of your organization’s account.
Before you delete a Databricks account, you must cancel your Databricks subscription.
To finalize deletion of your account, contact support.
